    answer:

    880 mango trees

    440 star apple trees

    Step-by-step explanation:

    The trees are in a ratio of 8:4 or in lowest term, 2:1.

    This is a partitive proportion so the total number is distributed to the ratios.

    So here is how are you going to solve it:

    1. Add the ratios.

    2 + 1 = 3

    2. Divide it to the total number of trees.

    1320 ÷ 3 = 440

    3. Multiply the answer to the ratios.

    440 × 2 = 880

    440 × 1 = 440

    To check:

    880 + 440 = 1320

    1320 = 8x + 4x
    1320 = 12x
    x =  110

    880 - mango trees
    440 - star apple trees

    8 + 4 = 12 \\  \frac{1320}{12}  = 110 \\ 110 \times 8 = 880 \\ 110 \times 4 = 440

    There are 880 mango trees and 440 star apple trees.

    check:
    880+440=1320

    At the least I would say 100 for each type

    Given:

    ratio of  mango trees to star apple trees = 8 : 4

    total number of trees = 1320

    Solution:

    8 : 4 = 1320\\ 8x + 4x = 1320\\ 12x = 1320\\ \frac{12x}{12} = \frac{1320}{12} \\ x = 110

    Getting the number of trees

    mango trees = 8x = 8(110) = 880

    star apple trees = 4x = 4(110) = 440

    Of 1320 trees there are 880 mango trees and 440 apple trees in the orchard.

    The problem looks like hard but its easy. Think of it as ratios. If there are 8 mango trees to 4 star apple trees, then it's ratio is 8:4 or 4:2 or 2:1. Similarly we can use this trick to solve the problem.

    8x + 4x = 1320

    12x = 1320

    x = 1320/12 = 110

    x is the number we need for that would satisfy the equation.

    8(110) = 880 mango trees

    4(110) = 440 star apple trees

    Adding it would total to 1320 trees.

    There are 880 mango trees and 440 star apple tree

    Mango trees represents the 2/3 of 1320 trees

    Star-apple tree represents the 1/3 of 1320 trees
