The Richter scale measures the magnitude of an earthquake (how powerful it is). It is measured using a machine called a seismometer which produces a seismograph. A Richter scale is normally numbered 1-10, though there is no upper limit.

    Explanation:

    1. Seismometers

    2. Hypocenter

    3. Earthquake

    4. The P wave is designated the primary preliminary wave because it is the first to arrive at a seismic station after an earthquake. ... The S wave is the secondary preliminary wave to be recorded.
